Marketing Works Team Spotlight: Amanda P.
Marketing Works is excited to welcome Amanda Pierce to our agency as the newest Account Coordinator. Originally from Bexley, Ohio, Amanda is an alumna of The Ohio State University, where she studied journalism. In her new position, Amanda serves as the daily contact for various business-to-business accounts across a variety of industries. In addition to project management, Amanda assists with the design and implementation of marketing and public relations initiatives. We are thrilled to have Amanda on our team and would like to further introduce her to the Marketing Works Family.
What has been your inspiration for a career in Public Relations and Marketing?
I loved journalism in high school because I had a great teacher. As a result of her instruction, I decided to pursue a degree in journalism at Ohio State. I always thought I would be a journalist, but during my senior year, I found that the degree could do more than that. Pursuing the marketing/communications route allowed me to use my journalistic skills in different ways.
What is your favorite part of agency life and Marketing Works?
Company culture is paramount at Marketing Works. They pour a lot into us as employees and as people through mentoring and coaching, which I love. Everyone is willing to talk about their goals, what’s working and what’s not. Everyone believes in personal and professional growth—that’s a big part of the work culture here.
The biggest challenge so far is adjusting to an agency setting. There are a lot of differences in how work is managed and how my day is structured. Ultimately, though, I think this will make me much more efficient and a better manager of my time.
What is your biggest accomplishment thus far?
One of my biggest accomplishments was helping to coordinate and promote the Senior Fashion Show at Columbus College of Art & Design—an annual event that benefits student scholarships. The marketing team worked hard to promote the event, get media there and provide social media support and it was rewarding to see our efforts pay off in a big way.
Who inspires you the most?
My biggest inspiration is my mom, for sure. She’s very strong and loving—two qualities that I admire. Her dedication to family, faith and work is an inspiration to me. It’s really tough to do all those things as well as she does.
When you were younger, what were your career aspirations?
I wanted to be a chef. My dad loves to cook so I was always in the kitchen growing up.
What actress would you pick to play you in a movie, and why?
Jennifer Garner—she seems really down to earth and she’s beautiful!
Last book you read?
Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, “What! You, too? I thought I was the only one.” – C.S. Lewis
What is your dream job?
I wouldn’t want to do it for a long time, but I have always wanted to be a sideline reporter for ESPN.
Do you have any personal or professional advice?
Stay true to yourself, especially in a job interview. If you get hired because of a facade, then they are expecting something that isn’t truly you, and the position might not be for you. It is unfair to the people that hired you, but also yourself, because you can’t be true to yourself. I think it is really important to always remember your values and be yourself.
