The PR Specialist is resourceful and knowledgeable in the industry and is eager to share that knowledge with colleagues, clients, vendors and anyone else they interact with.

He or she must be a great communicator on all things B2B and able to think quickly and strategically. The PR Specialist is good at selling a concept from the simple to the complex. With the changing landscape of PR, this person needs to be adept at managing relationships and leveraging all forms of channels to get our clients’ stories told.

This person has a good sense of humor and knows how to have fun, but also knows when to get down to business. Their ability to adapt to the fast-paced agency environment allows them to roll with the punches without getting easily frazzled.

The PR Specialist is confident and at ease conversing with the “C-Suite” (i.e., CEOs, CFOs, COOs, etc.). They can ask the tough questions, but can also be questioned. They are fearless and aren’t afraid to jump in and take charge. He or she is well-connected and involved with local and trade media as well as the community. This person has established credibility and is well-respected in a wide circle of relationships and thrives on connecting people, places and things.

RESPONSIBILITIES [WHAT]

The PR Specialist’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • 75% of the PR Specialist’s time will be dedicated to billable client work
  • Establish and meet result-driven metrics for each client:
    • Placements
    • Build a team and set them up for success
    • Secure national trade and local media as well as digital placements (i.e., blogs)
    • Social media rankings and engagement
  • Learn & understand each client industry on multiple levels (e.g., positioning, competitors, trends)
  • Savvy in dealing with reporters, pitching, creating unique & relevant angles
  • Understand the interests of a wide range of B2B audiences with the ability to tailor messages to effectively reach those audiences
  • Pursue proactive & reactive media opportunities with local and trade publications via pitching, securing opportunities, authoring op eds, tradeshows and or speaking opportunities , etc.
  • Increase current media opportunities & secured placements for each assigned client account
  • Track results & build ROI reports for each client to articulate what happened & why with next steps and recommendations
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Manage the planning & execution of a variety of communications initiatives on behalf of the agency & select clients, including, but not limited to: media relations, association relations, employee relations, analyst relations, reputation management (online and offline), speaking engagements & social media relations
  • Develop relevant and timely content establishing clients as experts & thought leaders (i.e., press releases, pitches, by-line articles, white papers, program reports, blogs, corporate messaging, web content, awards nominations, )
  • Social media consultation & management
  • Attend internal & client meetings (when appropriate)
  • Manage & mentor junior staff (when appropriate)
  • Manages time to be accessible to staff; spending more time on the phone with media
  • Nurture new & existing relationships with local and trade media
  • Contribute strategic thinking to existing & potential client programs. Provides sound communications counsel to agency clients
  • Create & build business by uncovering new opportunities in prospective & existing clients
  • May serve as the main client contact on select agency accounts
  • Accurately track & record all billable & non-billable time
  • Ensure agency values are adhered to across all client projects & deliverables

SPECIFICATIONS [TICKET]

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years post-internship experience
  • B2B experience
  • Microsoft Office proficient

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s in communications, PR, marketing, journalism or related field
  • Agency experience
  • Strong writing skills in B2B
  • Proficient in AP Style
  • Proven placements in multiple media channels
  • Social PR experience
  • Knowledge of social media management tools (i.e., HootSuite)
  • Strong relationships with specific media members (local, national, trades)
  • Proficient writing press releases, pitches
  • Pitching within different platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience working with media tools such as Vocus
