Jess Hellmich, Account Manager (January 2013) – Account Coordinator (December 2011-December 2012) – Intern Summer 2011

I had the opportunity to participate in Marketing Work’s internship which led to a full-time position as an Account Coordinator. One of the biggest shocks to me after graduating from college was how difficult it was to get my foot in the door at a place of employment. It seemed like every employer wanted me to have a few years of work experience. Well let me tell you, you will get that experience here. Marketing Works runs a different kind of internship, so hold on, listen up and be ready to do some real work because you are about to get invaluable experience here.

This internship is hands-on and fast-paced. You will be doing research, going to meetings, talking with clients, collaborating on marketing strategy and writing material that today’s companies will be using for years. But relax; you’re in good hands. The leadership here at Marketing Work is excellent. Don’t be afraid to ask questions; the staff here understands your role and wants to help you succeed.

My biggest piece of advice is to not think of this as an internship, but treat it as if you were employed as a full-time employee. Show them that you are an invaluable resource to the team and that we cannot continue to do business without you. If you can do that, there is a good chance they will hire you on, or at the very least, introduce you to the vast network of PR and marketing professionals in the area.
