Connect and Ride, known as C-Ride, is an exciting new app developed by Battelle. C-Ride allows users to manage public transportation options in the Greater Columbus area. The app helps to coordinate trips using the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) and The Ohio State University’s Campus Area Bus Service (CABS). The app is free and easily personalized to each individual user’s needs.
C-Ride provides bus schedules, routes and stop locations for both COTA and CABS to promote transfers between the two lines. Users can plan a trip by entering in a start and end location, preferred time of departure and estimated walk time to a bus stop. The C-Ride technology analyzes each field and comes up with options for the trip. C-Ride can also be used to find alternate travel options in the event that traffic affects a rider’s trip.
A primary goal of C-Ride is providing riders ample time to connect from CABS to COTA busses. Advanced technology called Connection Protection can send notifications to COTA of approaching C-Ride users to ensure that their ride transfer is a success.
Data gathered from the C-Ride app will be used in an ongoing study sponsored by the US Department of Transportation (US DOT). The study will examine data from the prototype to help make informed decisions about potential future research and investment options for the transit community across the nation.
Congratulations to Battelle on their successful launch of C-Ride! Marketing Works is excited to watch the app’s growth and its impact on the Columbus transit community.
