My Half-Over Adventure

The past six weeks here have been one big adventure for me. Not only because I have a new job at a marketing firm, but also because I moved to a city I’ve never Mebeen to before. I’ve lived in Cleveland my whole life–resided in the same house, went to the same places and stayed at home while I attended college. I’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled to many places, so it’s always been a dream of mine to live somewhere else. That came true, though not to the extent I was thinking!

Accepting this internship was by far one of the most stressful and most amazing decisions of my life. When I initially applied for the internship in July, little did I know that less than a month later I would be moving to Columbus. Moving here was kind of a shock to me since this is my first time living away from home and alone, but I have no regrets. It’s an amazing city that surprisingly has much to offer.

What I’ve learned.

Compared to my previous work experience, Marketing Works is meeting my expectations. The team has definitely helped me grow closer to the professional I want to be, as well as helped me improve my communication skills in a business setting. Additionally, I’ve been able to manage and prioritize my tasks in more efficient ways than I’d done before.

I’ve also learned a great deal more about social media. Contributing to Marketing Works’ social media strategy has really opened my eyes to how complex social really is. Everything from hashtags, to phrases, to posting times; there’s strategy behind them. My experience here at Marketing Works focuses on B2B content, which is insightful because I’m able to learn a whole new side to social media best practices and marketing in general.

What I’m working on.

I’m going to be upfront about something–I’m new to the B2B industry and I’m eagerly learning. I’ve had my share of successful projects and not so successful projects, but I’ve learned from them all and that’s what matters. I believe people with resilience will truly be successful in their careers

What I want to learn.

While I have my duties here, I still have time to work on other projects that interest me. I want to start a career in accounts, so I want to gain as much experience as possible before I land my first permanent job. Several items include delegating hours in projects, time management and presentation skills.

I’m looking forward to this next half, as it’s a time to really hone my skills and focus on the projects I’m working on. I also look forward to continuing to build relationships with everyone here. Not to mention, I have several Columbus attractions still on my bucket list before my time is over. So, we’ll see what happens in these weeks to come!
